Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special: The day of the Doctor

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special The day of the DoctorThe title for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special was revealed earlier today, it’s The day of the Doctor.

The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, will join David Tennant and John Hurt as the Doctors. It’s true, we still don’t know which incarnation of the Time Lord is John Hurt, but I think we will found out soon. Both companions Billie Piper and Jenna Coleman will be involved in the story.

The celebratory episode will be feature-length, it was announced to be 75 minutes long, not 90, as many have expected, and it will air 50 years to the day since Doctor Who first hit TV screens, on Saturday 23 November.

The story is also set to feature the return of classic Who monsters the Zygons, as well as Daleks, Cybermen and the Doctor’s allies UNIT.

Step inside the Tardis with Google Street View

Doctor Who: step inside the Tardis with Google Street View
Doctor Who: step inside the Tardis with Google Street View

Google Maps have celebrated Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary by adding a 360-degree panoramic view of the interior of the Doctor’s TARDIS to their Street View function.

The location to zoom is the police telephone box replica situated outside Earl’s Court tube station in West London (Earlham Green Earl’s Court Rd, London, Greater London Nr5 8DQ, United Kingdom ‎ +44 7700 900461).

It’s a popular destination for visiting Whovians, it was actually installed in 1996 as part of an ultimately abandoned attempt to reintroduce the boxes to London streets. While police boxes were prevalent at the time of Doctor Who‘s original broadcast in 1963, nowadays only a handful survive – and the Earl’s Court box is one of only two based on the same “Mackenzie Trench” design as the original TARDIS.

The Street View function offers visitors the chance to virtually walk around all sides of the console room (down at console level and around the upper mezzanine). It doesn’t extend yet to such rooms as the library, Zero Room or the infamous swimming pool.

Giant straw Dalek sculpture invades Cheshire field, Great Britain

Mike Harper Giant Dalek sculpture invades Cheshire field Great Britain Mike Harper Giant Dalek sculpture and the truck invades Cheshire field Great BritainDo you want to put pot village on the map? The Doctor Who map? Well..  there is a giant straw Dalek sculpture, created by Snugsburys ice cream shops, erected in a field in Nantwich, Cheshire, Great Britain, as part of their 10-year tradition of building stuff made out of straw in the middle of the fields.

The project was conducted by artist Mike Harper and it is a promotional sideline of the ice cream company, which uses the awareness to raise money for various charities. The occasion is the Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary.

Karen Gillan’s bold head

When Matt Smith cut his hair last month I had some problems in recognizing him in the video he thanked his fans.

These days we all had the chance Karen Gillan bold bald head… very surprising, almost shocking for may of her fans. 😀 Girls, you have no idea what you are losing when insisting you never shave your head (at least once)… It’s an experience you should not miss.

Accordingly to Radio Times, Matt knew about that before the Comic Con unveiling. Doesn’t she remains very cute, even without her hair? 😀

The Bells of Saint John, new preview pictures

The Bells of Saint John is the first episode from the second part of Doctor Who series 7, the Easter special. It will be on BBC 1 on 30th of March 2013.

Doctor Who The Bells of Saint John The Doctor and Clara new preview pictures

Radio Times posted several preview pictures… you can see the gallery here.

Well, the next Doctor Who installment is set in the present day and the focus is on WiFi (just look at all those laptops…) As The Doctor meets Clara again he realizes that something dangerous is lurking in the WiFi signals which cloak London and sets about trying to save the world from a hidden enemy. Celia Imrie is looking pretty menacing in these images, so it’s fair to assume her character is immersed in the dark side…

On the other hand, Matt Smith said that Clara has given the Doctor his mojo back.

“Having got his grieving for the Ponds out of the way, I think she’s reignited his curiosity in the universe and given him his mojo back, for want of a better word. It’s been a joy to work with Jenna and I’m really proud of the work we’ve done. And I think it’s exciting for the character. It gives him a new lease somehow,” said Smith at a press conference to launch the series.

It remains to be seen how, but I think it’s going to be… spectacular. 😀
