I don’t think this is a surprise, I’ve heard a lot of people not satisfied about the 13th series of the New Doctor Who. Some of them were not pleased about the Doctor being a woman, others were upset about the bad writing of this last series (it had some good moments but it could have been a much better series indeed).
Here is a summary of the numbers so far, as reported by DoctorWhoTV.co.uk.
- Episode 1 – 5.69 million (4.43 live)
- Episode 2 – 5.02 million (3.95 live)
- Episode 3 – 4.59 million (3.76 live)
- Episode 4 – 4.47 million (3.44 live)
- Episode 5 – 4.72 million (3.81 live)
- Episode 6 – 3.58 million live (consolidated TBA)
With an average consolidated rating of 4.89 million for the first five episodes, Flux is shaping up to be a weaker ratings performer overall than series 12. For comparison, that 10-episode series, which aired in early 2020, has an average consolidated rating of 5.4 million viewers per episode. The numbers speak for themselves, and that’s why I am asking for your opinion about the future of the show.
There is a big change coming, and that’s more than clear: Jodie Whittaker will step out from the role soon, Chris Chibnall wiil be replaced by Russle T Davies. More, if you don’t already know: Bad Wolf is a production company that began in 2015, founded by Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter (the duo launched the company after departing the BBC, but during their tenure at the network they both worked with Davies on Doctor Who), and the company will produce the show in partnership with BBC Studios from 2023. Even more: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is about to acquire that company.
So, you should expect some good new things in the next 2-3 years. I hope they are good, and the Doctor Who show will continue for a long time, but we’ll watch and see.
I have enjoyed Dr. Who since 1969. I have never seen Jodie W. in anything other than Dr. Who so I really don’t know whether she is a good or bad actress. My opinion, however, is that the Jodie W years are the worst Dr. Who I have ever seen. I do think the writing has been very bad but I also think the direction and the producer are the real problem. Almost every line spoken by the Dr. is yelled and as fast a pace as you could imagine. Way too much running by the principals. The camera shakes too much (I know, I know, trying to show action). There are way too many closeups looking up so that all I see is nostril. The new Tardis makes me feel claustrophobic. Whether Jodie leaves or not, I don’t care. I really want Chris Chibnall to leave as I think at heart he is the real problem with the show. I feel like he has no idea what the show should be about; instead he tried to reinvent the show in his image and it has proved to be a real failure.
Chris Chibnall is gone, there is only one episode left with him in charge. Russell T Davies is back.
