Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman will feature in two special editions of Blue Peter dedicated to the BBC sci-fi show. Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) will answer viewers’ questions in a pre-recorded segment for the Doctor Who: Blue Peter Special on the CBBC channel at 5:30pm on Thursday 21st of November.
Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) will be following her in the Doctor Who: Blue Peter Party at 9:30am on Saturday 23 November – 50 years to the day after the first ever episode of Doctor Who was broadcast.
The first Blue Peter special (Thursday 21st of November) will also see the launch of a competition giving young fans the chance to design a sonic device for one of three Doctor Who characters – Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint and Sontaran Commander Strax – while the Saturday edition will see a live audience joined in the studio by aliens from the series and challenged to design their very own monster. Viewers will be asked to send in their ideas for a new piece of sonic hardware for one of The Doctor’s companions. The winning design will be featured in the forthcoming eighth series of Doctor Who.
The competition will invite entries in three age categories: six to eight years, nine to 11 years and 12 to 15 years. The high-tech tools will be considered by a panel of judges including Steven Moffat and the production designer Michael Pickwoad, the man responsible for the recent Tardis control room revamp.
Winners will be announced as part of Blue Peter’s Christmas show on 19th of December, with one chosen designer heading to Cardiff to see their gadget being used on the Doctor Who set. Three runners up will each receive a framed picture featuring their entry and a signed photo of the actor they designed it for.
Competition details will be live on the Blue Peter website following the launch on 21 November.
