Steven Thompson, the guy who wrote The Curse of the Black Spot back in 2011 and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS last year, was confirmed to return to Doctor Who and he will wrote some more great episode of the series 8. It’s the first time he’s written for new Doctor, Peter Capaldi.
Douglas MacKinnon is also returning to Doctor Who, in order to direct a batch of the new episodes. Showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed that will write the series opener as well as episode four. Phil Ford (The Sarah Jane Adventures, Wizards vs Aliens) has been tapped to write the second episode, while the writer of the third will be confirmed in the future
Meantime, the writer Mark Gatiss has promised that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will change everything and that he brings a whole new set of rules. As it should be. Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “The Doctor’s always the Doctor – but you can have a lot of fun playing with people’s expectations. Everyone knows how the previous Doctor would react in any given situation – and now you just don’t know!” Steven Moffat has written Capaldi’s first full Doctor Who episode, which Mark Gatiss described as “thrilling”.
