Doctor Who: Flux 4, Village of the Angels

Don’t blink! if Davd Tennant’s Doctor has taught you something about the Weeping angels you know for sure that it’s not recommended you blink when watching an episode with this creatures in it. And an image of an Angel can keep all the features of that creature, no matter if it’s a picture, a drawing or… a premonition.

If the previous episode was complex enough to alienate some fans this episode was more linear and with a clearer action, without big problems of logic. It had also some surprises that should convince people to watch the next episode: it’s the first time it’s introduced a rogue Weeping angel, one that runs from his people and from the Time Lords’ Division, and who is capable to do anything and to betray anyone in order to escape. It’s the first time such angel has (or it claims it has) the entire history of this Division, and also the lost memories of the Doctor, but it’s unlikely it’s going to share them.

Some time ago, after watching some of Doctor’s adventure against these angels and when Gallifrey was not accessible, I was considering that the Weeping angels were nothing but the Time Lords that tried to return in the normal space. We still don’t know how the angels came into existence, but the Doctor has just transformed into one of them at the end of Flux chapter 4 because the angels sent to capture the rogue angel chose to recall her back to Division. The Time Lords may return to the show in one form or another this season, it remains to be seen how and how Vinder and Bel are going to find each other (they only appear briefly in this episode but they found clues in their search).

Directed by Jamie Magnus Stone based on a story written by Maxine Alderton and Chris Chibnall.

Cast: Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor), Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan), John Bishop (Dan Lewis), Kevin McNally (Professor Eustacius Jericho), Annabel Scholey (Claire Brown), Alex Frost (Reverend Shaw), Vincent Brimble (Gerald), Jemma Churchill (Jean), Penelope McGhie (Mrs. Hayward), Thaddea Graham (Bel), Blake Harrison (Namaca), Jacob Anderson (Vinder), Poppy Polivnick (Peggy), Rochenda Sandall (Azure), Barbara Fadden (Weeping Angel), Isla Moody (Weeping Angel), Lowri Brown (Weeping Angel), Jonny Mathers (Passenger).
