The special episode The Power of the Doctor

I have to admit it: this episode is of the best ones in the latests few years of the show. Chris Chibnall could have bring a better contribution in the period he was a writer and a showrunner, but the combination of his story and Jamie Magnus Stone's directing was good. They could have done some things better but I don't want to complain (too much): I enjoyed the episode.

Legend of the Sea Devils new trailer

The next episode of new Doctor Who will be aired on 17 April 2022, 2 weeks from now, and it's one of Jodie Whittaker's latest episodes as the Doctor (the very last one will be aired in the autumn, probably, when the 14th Doctor will make his/her appearance).

Jodie Whittaker on The Graham Norton Show, October 2021

You can now watch Jodie Whittaker's full interview segment from her appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 15 October 2021, ahead of the premier of Doctor Who: Flux (Series 13). Her final season could have been better, but it was nice. Jodie appeared on The Graham Norton Show following the wrap party for filming season 13 and may or may not have been feeling slightly delicate.

Doctor Who, season 13, special episode Eve of the Daleks

The Doctor started the TARDIS' reset (we, the IT guys, would call it hard reset) to clear all the effects of Flux but the action has an unwanted effect: it has produced a time loop that caught the Doctor, her friends and two other people in the Manchester building where the TARDIS has landed, a self storage in which people could rent some space to put there their personal belonging for a longer period of time. The worst part is that some Daleks find out about that and try to kill the Doctor because she had previously killed some millions of Daleks not so long time ago, during the last episode of 13th series. It wasn't even her fault, the massacre was the plan of the Sontaran clones, but who care about that - the effects being the same. The result? Find out! :)

Doctor Who: Flux ratings drop for finale

I don't think this is a surprise, I've heard a lot of people not satisfied about the 13th series of the New Doctor Who. Some of them were not pleased about the Doctor being a woman, others were upset about the bad writing of this last series (it had some good moments but it could have been a much better series indeed).

Doctor Who: Flux 6, The vanquishers

The last chapter of Flux was proven to be.. a massacre. I can't say it was not unexpected, during an event that involves the destruction of the entire Universe some victims are expected to happen. There were some good moments, too. Only some, but good - the rate of the episode was a medium one (it was not bad, but it was far from something extraordinary).

Doctor Who: Flux 5, Survivors of the Flux

And Tecteum returns in Doctor's time briefly (only in this episode) and unexpectedly: as Division chief she is the person accountable for the appearance of the Flux and for trying (more or less successfully) to destroy the Universe. The moments the two women spend together are at least interesting (and almost shadow the rest of the action): the Timeless Child could have come from another Universe and Tecteum tries to get there after she smashed her original Universe. She has the Doctors memories and it's only a problem of time (almost a week, for us) until she is going to get them back.

Doctor Who: Flux 4, Village of the Angels

It's the first time it's introduced a rogue Weeping angel, one that runs from his people and from the Time Lords' Division, and who is capable to do anything and to betray anyone in order to escape. It's the first time such angel has (or it claims it has) the entire history of this Division, and also the lost memories of the Doctor, but it's unlikely it's going to share them.

Doctor Who: Flux 3, Once, Upon Time

Its story was a battle for survival and brings with it floating Daleks, Weeping Angels and talkative Cybermen, all among the familiar foes in the show. This episodes is introducing a new character, Bell, Vinder's lover, and their unborn child. The lovers are trying to find each other in the Universe broken by Flux, and they will probably succeed. Probably, but that's another story that we are going to watch.

Doctor Who: Flux 2, The war of the Sontarans

In the middle of Crimean War (the year 1855) the Doctor and her companions cross paths with Mary Seacole, considered by some to be the first nurse practitioner, an istoric figure that helps the wounded from both sides in conflict. Historical speaking, in that war the British fought the Russian in the peninsula because the Otoman empire was collapsing. Mary Seacole was supposed to be there and then, but the several space ships full with Sontaran warriors were new and out of place. Especially that they were already ruling a big territory (as Russia and China together - and I think that's not a mistake, considering the tension the two countries have been provoking lately).

Doctor Who: Flux 1, The Halloween Apocalypse

The series 13 of the new Doctor Who is something special: it has only 6 episodes (shorter than other seasons because of covid-19) and tells only one story. The Halloween Apocalypse is the first part and, no matter its jam-packed action style (without many pauses), it's only an introduction: it presents us the characters and the appearance of Flux, the phenomenon that threatens to destroy the Earth. If this season continue in the same style as the first episode it might be a good one, but we have to watch it together in the following month and half.
